Senior Superintendent of Facilities & Safety

Organization Description: The College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) Senior Superintendent of Facilities and Safety reports and works under the general direction of the College Facilities Planner and Safety Coordinator managing CNAS facilities in support of teaching and multidisciplinary research programs. The incumbent functions within a centralized college unit, the Facilities and Safety Workgroup, to respond to facility and safety needs across the college. This position provides oversight of operations, projects, space utilization, laboratory instrumentation layout, and facility and environmental safety compliance for the multifaceted, highly specialized research laboratories, technical recharge facilities, instrumentation facilities, teaching laboratories, greenhouses, machine shops and offices. The College is assigned approximately 1,120,000 square feet of space in 240 buildings, housing 1,900 employees.

Minimum Requirements:
1. Graduation from college with a major in business administration, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or related degree and six years of progressively responsible experience in management of physical plant operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
2. Experience in the principles and practices of project planning, including facilities and equipment management. 
3. Ability to manage all phases of renovation and maintenance of facilities in a research environment, overseeing a variety of long and short term projects simultaneously, and to read and understand construction documents; and knowledge of construction terminology and methods. 
4. Knowledge of building safety requirements, and safe work processes and practices for a research environment. 
5. Ability to recognize problems and analytical skills to develop potential solutions, implement appropriate solutions, and evaluate progress and results. 
6. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a diverse audience. 
7. Ability to exercise sound judgment and sensitivity to issues of policy and process. 
8. Skill in working as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and supervising staff. 
9. Ability to manage budgets, and to forecast expenses. 
10. Demonstrated skill in using computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, calendar, email, and web-based applications on a PC in a Windows environment. 

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience and knowledge in safety coordination at a large research university. 
2. Knowledge of environmental and occupational health and safety practices; knowledge of legal aspects of risk management for environmental health and safety issues; working knowledge of California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA), and other California state regulatory agencies. 
3. Knowledge of safe work practices for a research environment as described in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) and emergency planning guides developed by Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S). 
4. Experience in handling a broad range of hazardous chemicals, radioactive materials and biological waste. 
5. Experience with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. 
6. Technical knowledge of maintenance and repair of growth chambers, controlled environment equipment, greenhouse operations, and research instrumentation. 
7. Experience training or instructing individuals. 
8. Relevant experience in the University of California system. 
9. Knowledge of UC policies, procedures and management systems, and familiarity with UCR campus.

JOB SUMMARY:
At the direction of the Business Development Manager, effectively communicate and sell Polygon services to the marketplace.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Implement and execute sales strategies as directed by Business Development Manager, Director of Sales and Sector Heads.
2. Effectively communicate and collaborate with Business Development Manager, Director of Sales and Sector Heads on the creation and implementation of local/regional sales strategies.
3. Build and maintain strong local relationships with key prospective clients.
4. Build and maintain strong local relationships with existing local clients.
5. Collaborate with Project Manager to insure that projects are completed in accordance with original estimates and quotes.
6. Assist and support Project Manager, as needed, with customer relationship management.
7. Make sales calls, give presentations, attend trade shows and participate in local trade organizations to increase awareness of Polygon services.
8. Perform other tasks as appropriate to increase the growth of the Polygon brand.

MEASURABLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Achieve targeted Sales goal in assigned area.
• Achieve targeted GM1 goal in assigned area.
• Achieve targeted Sales and Marketing activities in assigned area.
• Provide consistent and superior customer experience.
• Complete sales metrics reports per the Company process.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Four year college degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Three (3) years experience in a related service industry involved in business to business sales.
• Must have an established history of successful sales & marketing (not lead provided / response appointments).
• Strong organizational, negotiating, relationship and presentation skills.
• Strong sales skills, sales education and the ability to accomplish multiple tasks.
• Ability to plan and schedule sales activity using contact relationship software.
• Understanding of P&L.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Outside business-to-business services, requiring local and regional travel.
• Willingness to travel on short notice.

This individual would be a LEED Accredited Professional with solid LEED project management
